Synesthesia and Art: Why my Abstract Paintings are music to my eyes.

One of the most transformative elements in my painting process has been creating the right ambiance. Initially, I painted in silence, allowing my thoughts to guide the abstract designs. However, as my artistic style evolved, I discovered that I couldn’t focus on painting while listening to podcasts unless I was working on portraits or landscapes. This led me to realize that the emotions music evokes in me could be translated onto the canvas.

Eventually, I discovered that this creative hack is known as chromesthesia, a form of synesthesia where sounds involuntarily evoke the perception of colors. This condition not only enhances my creative process but also helps me maintain a focused emotional state through music. Notable musicians like Duke Ellington and Pharrell Williams also share this ability to perceive colors in music, but my goal is to translate these musical sensations into my abstract paintings.

I recently completed a series of 6-inch by 6-inch canvases, each painted while listening to a specific band or artist. These pieces will soon be available for purchase in the gallery section of my store.

Thanks for reading along and for your support.

As always ‘til next time,
