An Abstract with Poignant Promise
Earlier this year I was approached about my interest in donating my art to a charity gala. Without hesitation I accepted the opportunity and that was before knowing just how incredible the organization is. I met with the gala coordinator for Family Promise of Greater Wichita to find out more about the event and more importantly to learn more about the impact the organization. I encourage you to checkout their mission and services they provide to the Wichita Metro area through this link.
I created the abstract piece to represent the values of Family Promise. While I like my abstracts to speak for themselves, I think it is important to note the details I included.
Rotations by Alex Freund, 2024.
Acrylic and Oil on Canvas
Rotations aims to depict the chaotic reality of housing insecurity, as experienced by families served by Family Promise.
The painting's central white beam symbolizes the organization's mission to provide stability. Randomly placed and integrated painting styles represent the life cycles of those receiving assistance, with a red rectangle layered over the beam symbolizing an eviction notice.
As the title of the abstract dictates, the two canvases can be rotated and swapped to adapt to any environment, allowing for various interpretations and experiences.
Along with the Abstract painting that was auctioned, I wanted to provide some additional things that could be used to assist in fundraising efforts including some Kansas Centric prints and a bundle of pieces with the theme of mental health. I am so thrilled to be given the opportunity to contribute to such an incredible organization through my art and look forward to more opportunities I can contribute in the near future.
