Music Branding Design Journal - John Chuck & the Class

How does word play in the form of food sound? Well for John Chuck & the Class, it's the sauce needed for full flavor town emersion. My assumption is, purely based on the hot rod flames and button ups on their single album art, JC & the C are heavily influenced by spikey haired culinary colonel, Guy Fieri.

Chili Today, Hot Tamale is a bop that leans into cheesy lyricism and beats that use marching band instrumentation and funk synth that creates a modern indie rap song feels like it was taken straight out of the 80s.

If I had to have a grocery list of things I am searching for in a feel good, groove out, head bobber of a track that makes me wanna shimmy my shoulders, Chili Today, Hot Tamale is the dish that all the ingredients would be thrown into.

  1. A Capella intro with playful behind the scenes adlibs

  2. What I like to call a warble synth that flows back and forth in your speakers

  3. Word play on word play walking the line between clever and too cheesy

  4. Trumpet hits

  5. Shredding Guitar solo that doesn't feel out of place

  6. Surprise Male/Female duet during an already established chorus This could be the **perfect T-shirt design**, capturing the essence of the song with bold, screen-printed textures.

Making its way onto my playlist, enjoy making your way to flavor town by listening below.

Design Journal

  • Poster & Merch Design Idea- Playful and kitschy food-themed design, inspired by diner signage a la Guy’s library of food menus.

  • Motifs - Flaming chili peppers, retro diner menus, bold fonts.

  • Color Palette - Warm reds, yellows, and deep blues. Think spray painted street art type color tones.
