Rejected AF 0001
Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria: A clinical condition for a persistent problem that interferes with the ability to regulate emotional response to feelings of failure and rejection. As it turns out RSD is something I have struggled with for a majority of my life. I did not track that my responses to receiving a No to an inquiry or not earning a certain letter grade were abnormal responses. According to my therapist the best way to curb the abnormal emotional responses to benign interactions is to seek situations I have a high likelihood of being rejected. What better way to do that than by setting an unrealistic goal of being published in a national publication for a medium I am not versed in?
Follow along to Rejected AF as I show off my most recent rejected cartoon submissions to The New Yorker. A personal creative inspiration and friend of mine, Tommy Siegel, showcases his rejected cartoons frequently (he also is much more accredited in all things publishing than I, by no means do I feel like I am on the same level as him from a creative success standpoint) and thought I would take his format of using rejected concepts for one thing and spin it as a positive. Without more delay, here are the first cartoons rejected.
